Convert your foreign driving licence in Qatar
Holders of a valid licence from 33 approved countries can exchange it for a Qatari licence without a course or a test. Check your country below.
Conditions for a direct exchange
- Your licence is valid and not expired
- You hold a valid Qatar ID / residence permit
- NOC from your sponsor on Metrash
- Eye test at the Traffic Department or an approved optician
- Certified Arabic translation if the licence is not in Arabic or English
- Original licence, passport, Qatar ID and passport-size photos
Licence fee QAR 250 for 5 years (residents), paid by card at the Traffic Department.
The 33 approved countries
With a valid, unexpired licence you can exchange it for a 5-year Qatari licence at the Traffic Department. You still need an eye test and your sponsor’s NOC.

GCC countries (road test)
Since 2024, GCC licences are no longer exchanged automatically. You can skip the course and sit the road test directly; we rent you a training car for the test.

Not on the list — half course
Most other licences qualify for the half course (20 classes instead of 40) with Traffic Department approval. Bring your licence and we will confirm.
